Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself and how your career as an artist began?
A:
My name is Elizabeth McLaurin of Elizabeth Sage Art and I have been painting landscapes for nearly ten years! I first used oil paints in high school and fell in love with it, which led me to pursue a major in Fine Art at Texas Christian University. After graduating I decided to keep pursuing a career in the arts and launched my business soon after. I have been able to work with some amazing galleries and also grow my e-commerce business and sell work on my website. It’s been a joy to connect with so many collectors across the country and see my artwork hang in beautiful homes!
Q: Where are you based?
A:
While I grew up in Houston, TX, I now call Fort Worth, TX home! I’m a true Texan through and through.

Q: Where do you draw inspiration from?
A:
My family has some land in southeast Texas, and the majority of my work is inspired by my trips out to The Farm, as we call it. My goal is to capture the landscape as it changes with the time of day and seasons throughout the year. I am interested in how the light and the land below it interact, from sunrise to sunset.
Q: Tell us about the style in which you paint and the materials you use?
A:
I consider myself in the Abstract Impressionist category - while the subject matter is obviously a landscape scene, the color palette and brush strokes toe the line between realism and imagination. Oil paints are my primary medium, and love painting on both canvas and paper!

Q: We love your landscapes and abstract pieces. Do you have a favorite to paint?
A:
There’s nothing I love more than painting the dreamy fields of wildflowers that cover Texas fields every spring!
Q: As a mother of two young boys, how do you find time paint and be a mom?
A:
Balancing work and motherhood is a constant work in progress! We just recently welcomed our second baby, so I am certainly no expert on the perfect set up! It takes a village and I couldn’t have the success I’ve had without all of the help from those who love and care for my boys while I work!
Q: What are your top 3 prints we carry at Hummingbird?
A: That’s a tough one! Dancing Poppies is an all time favorite, but I also love Peaceful Place and Wildflower Dreaming.

Q: When you're not painting, what will we find you doing?
A: I love spending as much time as I can with husband and my boys! As a family we love attending TCU sporting events, and being outside as much as we can.
