7 Essentials to Setting a Table

Setting a table should be an expression of your personal style. We pulled together a few tips on how to prep for your next gathering. Whether it be an elegant dinner party, casual backyard luncheon or garden picnic, consider the following tips to setting the perfect table.

#1 Set a Theme
No matter how large or small the gathering, it's important to set a theme for your event. Whether you're hosting an outdoor cocktail party, barbecue or intimate luncheon, setting a theme will charm and captivate your guests.

#2 Get Organized
Being organized is the key to holding a successful gathering. You're less stressed on the day of the event, which helps to create an inviting, carefree atmosphere. Your guests will take the cues from you; the more fun and relaxed you are the more relaxed your guests will be.

#3 Selecting Dinnerware
Don't be afraid to mix things up! Let the creative juices flow and experiment with different styles and patterns when it comes to selecting cups, plates and platters.

#4 Selecting Glassware
Don't feel like you need to stick to one style or color for your tablescape. Incorporate vintage and more modern glassware for a new look. Most glassware can also do double duty. Mix up your martini glasses and serve a shrimp cocktail appetizer inside instead.

#5 Selecting Flatware
Often overlooked, flatware can be another way to add some charm to your place settings. Add variety and mix in some vintage flair. We also love flatware made of natural elements such a rattan or bamboo. The natural color and texture works nicely with all glassware and patterned dinnerware.

#6 Selecting Table Linens
Possibly our favorite part of designing a tablescape, mixing and matching our linens! Choose table linens that pick up the colors of your glassware and dinnerware. Layer up your table with placemats and choose a contrasting napkins to add a level of sophistication and style to your gathering.

#7 Finishing Touches
We love love love the finishing touches! It's all about the accents and finishing touches that leave a memorable experience and showcase your personal style. Fill small vessels with florals and add some fresh fruits to the table like lemons, peaches or artichokes. Candles are a must, too! Adding tapers or filling glass votives will illuminate your table and create warmth and a lovely ambiance.
